A process of soil degradation in arid, semi-arid, and sub-humid areas, resulting in the loss of fertility due to the destruction of vegetation cover and erosion, eventually becoming a desert. This can be related to natural or anthropogenic factors, such as deforestation or poor agricultural practices.
