Fold

Deformation of rock strata into a wavy shape. They arise as a consequence of tectonic pressure in plastic rocks that, instead of fracturing, fold. A fold consists of an anticline (convex) and a syncline (concave). There are different types: upright, inclined, or recumbent, depending on the dip of their axial plane, and they exhibit varying degrees of curvature.
