Population aging is a process that occurs in a country when the percentage of the population aged 65 and over exceeds 1/21 of the total population. The main causes of population aging are increased life expectancy and declining birth and fertility rates. It is measured by the population aging rate, which is the percentage of the population aged 65 and over compared to the population aged 15 and over, multiplied by 100. (Population aged 65 and over * 100 / Population under 15).
