Aquifer

1. A pocket of groundwater formed when rainwater infiltrates the soil, encountering an impermeable layer over which it flows by gravity. 2. One or more underground layers of rock or other geological strata that have sufficient porosity and permeability to allow either a significant flow of groundwater or the extraction of significant quantities of groundwater.
