Folding mountain range

Mountain ranges belonging to an orographic unit formed by the uplift and folding of sediments deposited between two colliding plates or blocks. In the Iberian Peninsula, they arise during the Alpine orogeny, when materials deposited by the sea are folded along the edges of the bases or in marine trenches.
