1. These are areas within the national territory or maritime waters under national sovereignty or jurisdiction, including the exclusive economic zone and the continental shelf (…) that contribute appreciably to the maintenance or, where appropriate, the restoration of the favorable conservation status of natural habitat types and habitats of species of community interest (…) in their natural distribution area. 2. A place that, in the biogeographical region to which it belongs, contributes appreciably to maintaining or restoring a natural habitat type or species in a favorable conservation status and that can contribute appreciably to the coherence of Natura 2000, and/or contribute to the maintenance of biological diversity.
