Meridian

An imaginary semicircle perpendicular to the Equator that passes through the geographic poles, with respect to which longitude is measured. All points located on the same meridian have the same longitude and therefore the same solar time. Since 1884, the meridian passing through the Greenwich Observatory (0°) in England has been used internationally as the prime meridian (from which longitude is measured).
