Migratory balance

The relationship between immigration and emigration to a given place over a period of time, usually a year. It is calculated by subtracting immigrants from emigrants. If the result is positive—a positive net migration—the population increases, and there are more immigrants than emigrants. When the net migration is negative, the population decreases because there are more emigrants than immigrants. It is expressed as a percentage of the total population (immigrant population – emigrant population).
