Parallel

An imaginary circle parallel to the Equator whose perimeter decreases toward the poles. They are the reference for measuring latitude. All points located on the same parallel have the same latitude. The greatest parallel is the Equator (0º), which divides the Earth into two hemispheres: the northern hemisphere and the southern hemisphere.
