Metropolitan space

Territorial unit dominated by a large city or metropolis in whose surroundings other population centers are integrated, forming a functional, often institutionalized, unit.

Peri-urban space

Space located on the immediate outskirts of cities and composed of the urban fringe and the rural fringe.

Rural space

Territory that includes all non-urban areas, defined demographically by population size. In Spain, this includes places with fewer than 10,000 inhabitants. Functionally, these areas primarily support agricultural, livestock, and forestry activities (primary sector), although industrial activities are also present, mainly related to the initial processing of raw materials.

Defile

A crevasse that can be more than 100 meters deep, very similar to the canyon, carved by water into the limestone rock. Its steep walls can be more than 200 meters apart.

Basin

Depression on the Earth's surface; a wide valley of a more or less circular shape.
